Screech Owl Placed

November 22, 2004 - Screech Owl Placed with California Education Group
We are placing a non-releasable screech owl with an education group in California this week. The bird came in with a fracture of the humerus very close to the shoulder. Because of the muscles involved along the top of the humerus, it's a difficult area to pin. Unfortunately, though the bone healed fine, the patagial tendon that lies along the leading edge of the wing got bound up in the healing, and the wing no longer has full extension.

He'll have a wonderful life with Native Bird Connections in the East Bay area of California, whose educators have a good 30 years of training and program experience between them. They gave us Taka, our dark-morph Swainson's hawk a year and a half ago.
